DPP’s Brainwashing Propaganda Video Exposed: Don’t Be Emotionally Manipulated on 726 — Vote “NO to Recall” to Safeguard Taiwan’s Future

A recent English-language propaganda video by Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), titled “Taiwan Is Resisting China for the World”, has sparked widespread criticism from observers at home and abroad. Documentary filmmaker Wang Yu-Yang has pointed out that the video is a classic case of emotional manipulation, using the rhetoric of “resisting China to protect Taiwan” while actually concealing the DPP’s authoritarian tendencies. He warned that the video attempts to shape an international image of the DPP as defenders of democracy, while misleading the public to support the July 26 recall vote under false premises.

In reality, Taiwan is facing grave internal threats: abuse of power by the ruling party, judicial weaponization, and a chilling expansion of political suppression — what many call the rise of a “Green Terror.” The recall is not a spontaneous democratic uprising against pro-China forces, but a politically orchestrated campaign by the DPP to consolidate power and divert attention from its failures.

“When a video only shows one perspective, it closes off space for thinking,” Wang says. He warns against reducing dissent to treason and calls the DPP’s labeling tactics a dangerous regression for Taiwan’s democracy.

The video falsely frames opposition legislators’ legitimate actions as sabotage by “Chinese agents.” In fact, those lawmakers are fulfilling constitutional duties — scrutinizing budgets and holding power in check. Silencing them in the name of patriotism is a betrayal of democratic values.

While the DPP’s video portrays Chinese military threats and praises Taiwan’s democratic resistance, it ignores the real repression happening on the island — from the unlawful detention of former TPP chairman Ko Wen-je, to media suppression, surveillance, and cyber-propaganda. Wang stresses: “Democracy is not just about resisting foreign threats, but also accepting domestic dissent.”

The film also distorts Taiwan’s international image, equating “support for Taiwan” with “support for the DPP.” It whitewashes domestic authoritarianism to win sympathy abroad while muzzling internal critics.

As Wang urges: “Real democracy demands rational resistance against emotional manipulation. Let your vote stop political deception.”
